About The Climate Miles

By walking The Climate Miles, Urgenda is calling attention to the action needed to avert dangerous climate change and keep the planet safe for future generations.

From the 1st to the 28th of November, Urgenda director Marjan Minnesma will walk more than 500 km from Utrecht to Paris, where the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) will be held. Every day she will be joined by a special guest, who will leave behind a new Milestone with a message.

Anyone is free to join us, whether for a day, a week, or the entire month. While we walk, we’ll meet interesting people, visit inspiring initiatives, and cover approximately 20 kilometers per day.

Together, we will show the world that the time to act is now!

Practical information

Our route passes by many different train stations, so it’s easy to join us along the way. We depart every day at 09.00 (usually from the nearest train station) and will walk approximately 20 kilometers to the next place.

Urgenda has arranged for (shared) accommodation and meals at all stops. For 100 euros per day you can make use of these facilities. This includes lunch, dinner, a shared room, and breakfast the following morning. In addition, there is a vehicle to transport luggage and first aid kits. We kindly ask you to arrange your own transport to and from the walk.

Of course you are also welcome to join us and make your own arrangements for meals and accommodation.

    About Urgenda

The Dutch Urgenda Foundation aims for a fast transition towards a sustainable society, with a focus on the transition towards a circular economy using only renewable energy. It works on solutions for this transition, including for example the introduction and realization of ‘energy neutral’ houses and the acceleration of electric mobility. Urgenda views climate change as one of the biggest challenges of our times and looks for solutions to ensure that the earth will continue to be a safe place to live for future generations.
